Klaus Poier
Klaus Poier is a university professor of public law and political science and has also been Head of the Centre for Austrian and European Higher Education Law and Governance(ZHR) since 2020. Since November 2023, he has also been Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Law at the University of Graz.
His research focuses on constitutional law, the development of democracy, electoral law and electoral systems, direct democracy, higher education law and other issues at the interface of law and politics. From 2003-2006 he was a member of the Austrian Convention. He has also been involved as a constitutional law expert in several other constitutional reform projects, in particular in the government negotiations at federal level in 2013, 2017 and 2019. He has been a member of the ORF Foundation Board since 2015 and the Austrian member of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities of the Council of Europe since 2022.
He is also involved in several organisations, including as Chairman of the Dr Karl Kummer Institute, as Secretary General of the Club Alpbach Steiermark and as Managing Director of the Styrian Memorial - Josef Krainer.
